Description

The Mexican Day of the Dead “Día de Muertos” is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexican culture, where death is seen as a natural part of human life. This means that Mexicans do not see the day as a sad one, but as a celebration, when the deceased wake up and celebrate with them. During this time, altars are set up, graves are visited and gifts are brought, and decorated sugar skulls are painted and made.

*The Mexican Day of the Dead was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2008

*The word ” calavera” (or ” calaverita in diminutive”) means “skull” in Spanish
